- Feed the Need 2024
100 free turkey dinners given to families. Moonchild Foundation helps disadvantaged families this Thanksgiving. With just four days away from Thanksgiving, one foundation helped countless disadvantaged families put a holiday meal on their table. The Feed the Need event highlighted the alarming increase in the number of people who face food insecurity each day. Moonchild Foundation, alongside a variety of other sponsors, showed up to support families in the Amphi School District that are not able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. “I can’t give it a price. I’m very thankful and know that there’s actually people out there that want to help,” said Gabriela Rojas, an event attendee. For Rojas, receiving one of the meals meant the difference between celebrating Thanksgiving, and not. 100 free turkey meals with various ingredients and step by step cooking videos were given to families in need, like Rojas and her cousin, whom she wards. She added that because of the event, it’ll bring her family closer together. “These are powerful moments. And I think that from a standpoint of what the Moonchild Foundation’s aim is, is this is what it’s trying to complete. This is its mission. Just help, try to provide healthy food to families that are in need,” said Charles Davis Jr., president and founder of Moonchild Foundation. For Davis, it’s an honor to give healthy and full meals to these communities. He listed inflation and grocery costs as a few of the reasons he wants to be a part of giving back, and hopes it’ll inspire other to do the same.
- Snack Attack 2021
Moonchild Foundation supports Tucson families with healthy food giveaway. With more kids learning from home during the pandemic, and summer fast approaching, healthy options haven’t always been accessible for families. ”When we look at the statistics in regards to obesity rates, diabetes, or even those experiencing extreme complications with COVID, a lot of the connections have to do with the overall lifestyle,” said Abby Charles, Miss Tucson. Dozens of volunteers gathered at Rillito Park in Tucson Saturday, May 1, to give away 300 bags of healthy snacks. Families could drive up and receive a snacks bag for each member in their family. ”A lot of people may need help but have trouble asking for it, so we’re here giving away snacks without any questions asked,” said Charles Davis, president of the Moonchild Foundation. This is the second food giveaway organized by the Moonchild Foundation, the first event was held in November. The president of the foundation said people were lined up an hour before the giveaway began. Miss Tucson created recipes that were included inside the bags for families to make using the free ingredients. ”If we can teach our children to be healthy, we won’t have to spend so much time on fixing the issue, we’re spending more time on preventing the issue,” Charles said.
